Unveiled in the full US specification at the New York Auto Show, the revised Volkswagen Golf Variant 2018 family enjoys a selection of cosmetic and functional enhancements that add visual appeal and enhance the value of the Golf base as well as Alltrack, SportWagen, GTI and Hot Golf R.
Cosmetically, the changes 2018 Volkswagen Golf Variant are minimal. In the front, there is a new fascia with LED headlights in place of the high-end xenon HID. There is also a new fascia at the rear with LED taillights. Exterior design updates include new bumpers, a new chrome grille, new alloy wheel designs and improved interior materials.
The standard features of the S base include a 6.5-inch touch screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard, automatic headlights, windscreen wipers and 15-inch alloy wheels. The mid-grade SE variants add keyless entry / start, 8.0-inch touchscreen, 16-inch alloy wheels, warning of the blind, rear alert and front assist with pedestrian detection. The AllTrack Golf is based on the same standard equipment as the golf hatch with 17-inch alloy wheels for the S-base and a panoramic sunroof for the SE class. The standard features of the Golf SportWagen mirror those of the golf tailgate in each trim level, but the drive-wheel models come standard with 16-inch alloy wheels and heated front seats in trim S. The SEL rating of the range offers navigation, adaptive cruise control, dual-zone climate control, 12-way steering seat, auto-dimming rear-view mirror and interior lighting. LED headlamps, Fender Premium Sound System, Lane Assist, Light Assist, Parking Assist and Parking Sensor are available as part of the optional Golf Hatchback, AllTrack Golf and SportWagen Golf Packages.
A 1.8-liter turbo-4 that removes 170 horsepower and 199 pounds of torque (a figure dropped to 184 lb-ft with the standard stick-shift) comes on hatchback and wagon versions. A 5-speed manual is standard and a 6-speed automatic transmission is optional on the hatch, while the SportWagen Golf and the Alltrack Golf are delivered with a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual transmission or gear box with double 6-speed clutch operated on if optionally with a front or all-wheel drive.
The 2018 Volkswagen Golf Variant will go on sale this fall, and VW says the awards will be announced as we get closer to launch.
