A prototype of what could be the anticipated SUV spin-off of the 2018 Nissan NP300 ute has been tested spied this week, revealing more than a little of the R51 Pathfinder at its retirement.
The style of the new 2018 Nissan NP300 will not change much for the new model year. The new Navara-based SUV seems to have an end-of-range very similar to the one currently being developed by judging spy photos. So we do not expect much difference there. The model will have a V-shaped grille and well-accented headlights combined with the front carved bumper. The attractive folds of the top and the flared wings will also add to the appearance of the model. In contrast, the 2018 Nissan Navara NP300 should make cosmetic changes that could include new color options, a new exterior theme and a wheel design.
The body-on-frame platform that started in the latest 2018 Nissan NP300 is very flexible, allowing different lengths of wheelbase and suspension types. Compatible engines include various petrol and diesel units. Mercedes-Benz and Renault will use the platform for their respective pickup models in the coming years. They are unlikely to offer SUV variants, however.
The features and options of the engine are still unknown, although Nissan has already started integrating the diesel engine into its range with Titan XD. There have been rumors that Nissan could incorporate a 2.8-liter Cummins turbodiesel into the next border producing about 200 hp with 380 lb.-ft. of torque to compete with similar offers on Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. However, this has not yet been confirmed.
