2018 Kia Sedona – Have you long stopped worrying about the holidays? Does the idea of putting pants on the weekend put you off? So you, my friend, need a van in your life. The best images seem to be the all-new Honda Odyssey and the Chrysler Pacifica. But that’s precisely why Kia is working on updating her Sedona, which in some markets is known as Carnival.
The profile of the minivan is timeless and the 2018 Kia Sedona is doing pretty well with what has been given to it outside. The grille is standing, framed by LED traffic lights and a generally light touch on the chrome. The roof floats almost out of sight, where the side glass rises in the rear end. At the rear, the Sedona looks like the Sorento crossover, which is good.
Between the doors and the Sedona is a bit chunky, without being cluttered. The horizontal dashboard is a little boring, but black piano trim and two-tone patterns help break the landscape. Soft touch materials adorn the superior trim levels on the dashboard and door, and there is a refined level of detail borrowed from high-end sedans such as the Cadenza and the K900.
The results of crash tests are good, but the latest security features are confined to expensive versions and packages. Otherwise, the Sedona is well equipped with a simple infotainment system, leather, ventilated front seats, and Apple CarPlay in its most lavishly equipped models. A midline Sedona EX with a careful hand on the order sheet offers a new minivan value, but if we could, a few thousand more would make us an advanced family shuttle with a Honda or Chrysler badge.
The robust 3.3-liter V6 engine does not seem likely to change. His 276 horses are roughly in line with the competition. However, an 8-speed automatic will replace the old 6-speed. For South Korean markets, the Carnival is available with a 2.2-liter turbo-diesel engine producing 197 hp and 440 Nm (320 lb-ft). Could we also see a 2-liter turbo that lasts a few more kilometers per gallon? The market does not seem to demand it, but Kia is always ready to test new ideas.
